I recently came back from a Yoga Retreat at Langkawi and it was such a relaxing yet rewarding experience.
Glad that I made the decision to do something new and different this time! Prior to joining the retreat, I had only 2-3 classes of yoga. I have always wanted to be more committed to yoga, since I am made known to the promising benefits of yoga, especially for us women - it is great for posture and strength.
When I mentioned to a friend how I wanted a healthy getaway for my birthday instead of getting wasted in a party, and she told me how a yoga retreat would be perfect for us, since she wanted a retreat to de-stress and I am a nature enthusiast!
Many of you might not be convinced of the idea of having to exercise in a vacation, I was like that too initially. But the more I give a thought about it, the more I realised a yoga retreat is the ideal getaway that I've always wanted - close to nature, relaxation, healthy and productive.
We signed up for the 3-day 2-night yoga retreat conducted by Langkawi Yoga held at the beautiful retreat centre - Ambong Ambong, which is also our accommodation for 2 nights. Perched into a jungly hillside, Ambong Ambong is located about 15 minutes walk away from Pantai Tengah. It was a delightful stay, as there are only 11 units in the resort so it was rather personal staying here and all our needs were very well attended to by the staffs. It is a place of peace, serenity and tranquility. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at Ambong Ambong! I love that we were being surrounded by the nature and the calm ambience you get here. Oh and you need not join the yoga retreat to stay here!
It was totes amazing having to do yoga at sunrise/sunset outdoor listening to the sounds of nature overlooking to the sea view, Hopefully I am given the opportunity to go for another yoga retreat! And these reasons tell you why you should join one too!
#1 You don't need to be a yoga expert
Anyone can join a yoga retreat! Be it an absolute beginner or an avid yogi, you will get to enjoy the different types of yoga and meditation offered in the class. I found myself falling in love with yoga already during my 2nd class.
#2 EAT WELL
When you're on a yoga retreat, all meals will be served to you and what's even better, they are all healthy and clean meals (often vegetarian/vegan too). Trust me, although healthy but the meals were delicious. Our healthy meals were also prepared in a variety of cuisine - Western, Japanese and Indian, so we get to try scrumptious healthy meals from all over the world! Many of you often think that healthy meals taste bland, but because of this trip healthy meals never look the same to me anymore. And yes, I came home feeling extremely health inspired!
#3 Meditate and Relax
When you are on a retreat, you will get to disconnect from the world digitally. The retreat schedule has made sure that you get plenty of rest in between classes. Having rest is often deemed as a luxury in our daily life, but because you're on a retreat, you are allowed to rest when you want and just enjoy the nature.
When I first signed up for the retreat, I was still worried that my body couldn't adapt to the intense schedule. It was completely not like how I have imagined. The whole experience proves to me that yoga can be gentle and relaxing too.
If you are also wondering, yoga retreat is not just about exercising. You could also pamper yourself by going for massages/spa treatment of your choice.
#4 Explore new places
Yoga retreat are mostly available at exotic places due to its location being close to nature. If it's not joining the yoga retreat, we wouldn't discover this gorgeous retreat centre. If time and budget permit, I would join a yoga retreat but at a different country this time. Places like Bali, Sri Lanka, Greece, Hawaii and etc. have been made famous for their yoga retreat due to its beautiful and inspirational surroundings. That's like killing 2 birds in 1 stone - I get to do yoga and visit new places! Oh and getting to meet like-minded people from all over the world sounds good too.
#5 Learn the benefits of yoga
I couldn't stress enough the positive effects that yoga provides to us, be it physically, psychologically and mentally. Just like exercising, yoga gives you both instant satisfaction and lasting transformation. Yoga is not just working out, it encourages a healthy lifestyle. Yoga is great for our flexibility, balance, strength and posture, while improving our overall health inside-out. You not only look good but you will feel good too. Yoga focuses on breathing, which allows us to meditate, helping us to clear our mind. Also, yoga promotes better sleep and instantly melt away stress after each class.
#6 You will come home feeling refreshed and energised.
Yoga retreat is the type of vacation you can bring back when you leave. If you were having a party vacation. you're gonna wake up feeling nausea and hangover. That would the be the last thing I want to see myself in. It is completely the opposite for yoga retreat. It will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated at the end of your trip. After few days of nutritious eating, restful sleep and yoga, you will go home filled with lots of positive vibes and energy. The entire experience will keep you totally inspired!
Let's break from the usual routine and do something new! You will be surprised!
